CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â It s just a walkway out into Corpus Christi Bay, but lots of people have fond memories of the Cole Park Pier.
âWhen I was growing up as a kid coming out here and walking all the way to the end of the pier, watching the fisherman catch fish and seeing the jellyfish floating in the bay,â Suzelle Tinnell said.
The city closed off access to the pier two years ago, and a short time later, a section of it near the shore collapsed.
But the pier is about to get new life.
BIMCO Seeks to Take on Ships Abuse of AIS Satellite Tracking
by Ship & Bunker News Team

BIMCO is seeking to take on the problem of ships tampering with satellite tracking to avoid being spotted breaking sanctions. The organisation is developing a charter party clause governing the proper use of the
Automatic Identification System (AIS) used to broadcast the location of ships, it said in a statement on its website on Tuesday. Ships are already required to carry an AIS transponder under the
International Maritime Organization s
SOLAS Convention, but the systems are frequently turned off. Sometimes the transponders are disabled by ships passing through areas with pirates and other security risks, but the systems also appear to be abused on a regular basis by companies shipping crude out of countries with sanctions against them meant to prevent such trades.

Cruise ship denied entry to New Zealand Waters.
RNZ
A cruise ship turned away from New Zealand is now stuck off the coast of New Caledonia, low on fuel with a significant storm approaching and no permission to dock.
Le Laperouse has an economic exemption to come to New Zealand for the cruise season, but was last week refused entry after Immigration denied 61 of its 90 crew visas because they are not considered essential workers.
The government says the ship left Jakarta before its paperwork was processed, but the boat s owner believes it and the crew were given the all clear to come.
